
Ingredients (use vegan versions):
- 1 pkg. regular extra firm tofu, drained and cut in 1/4 to 1/2" slices
- approx. 1/2 to 1 cup soy sauce or tamari
- approx. 1/2 cup water
- approx. 1 to 1 1/2 cup wheat germ
- approx. 1 cup engevita yeast
- olive oil
Directions:
Marinate tofu slices in soy sauce for a minimum
of 20 min or up to several hours.
Mix together yeast and wheat germ in dish (should
be about 2/3 wheat germ to 1/3 yeast, no need to
measure).
Heat oil in large fry pan.
Dredge tofu slices in wheat germ/yeast and place
in pan. Fry until brown then flip and brown the
other side, adding more oil if necessary so they
don't dry out.
Serve with chutney or your favorite dipping sauce.
Great as a side dish to any veggie meal
especially with rice or potatoes.
This recipe is easy-going, just wing it!
Variations: add minced garlic or rosemary or your
favorite herb to tofu while marinating.
Cold leftovers are good in your lunch.
